“Ask a Master Gardener” Plant Clinic

  • Des Moines Waterfront Farmer’s Market (at Des Moines Marina)
  • Saturdays, 10 am – 2 pm
  • June 3rd to September 30th

Ask a WSU Extension Master Gardener your garden questions at the Des Moines Farmer’s Market this summer. I stopped by their booth last weekend, and friendly volunteers helped me identify and diagnose a diseased rose leaf and bud. (If they can’t figure it out, they informed me they could send a sample to their diagnostic lab in Puyallup.) The staff mentioned that they also love to have pictures to assist them in identification.

At the booth was a collection of additional resources, reference gardening books, and handouts on specific garden topics. The ladies further directed me to classes offered online through the WSU Master Gardener program and at their Bellevue Demonstration Garden. Details at mgfkc.org/education.

I enjoyed chatting at length with one of the volunteers as she explained her techniques for the succession planting of late summer flowers. I encourage you to visit them; I departed the market informed, inspired, and equipped!

Happy summer gardening,

Beth
