Highline School District Showcasing Science, Music and Math

Highline School District: April 17 and 19 School Curricula Review: Math, Science, and Music 

On Monday, April 17, at the Highline School District Headquarters from 4:30 to 5:45 pm and April 19, online via Zoom online from 6 to 7 pm, the Highline School District is hosting elementary and middle school science showcases, secondary music, and upper-level math. Please show up and provide your input!

At the showcases, attendees can review materials and provide feedback to the committees working on finding the best materials for students and teachers to use.

Committees have been working for as long as two years on reviewing materials. Here are links to each of the committees and a brief description of their work for readers to review before the showcases. 

Science Adoption: K5

This committee has 24 members, including 7 parents. The Request for Proposal Deadline was September 20, 2022. There is no information online about what the committee has done. The website page lists five meetings held in April, May, and June 2022.

Science Adoption: Middle School

This committee has seven members: two parents and five school district employees. There are 11 meeting dates listed during the current school year and five dates in April – June 2022. 

Upper-Level Math

This info page lists two finalists for Pre-Calculus, Statistics, and Calculus. There are seven committee members. One is a University Partner from Evergreen in Olympia, and the others are all school district employees. The committee has had seven meetings in the current school year, with two more listed on the schedule. 

K12 Music

This committee has 18 members, including a recent grad from the school district who was extensively involved in music. He’s the only member of the committees described as a “community member.” There are also six parents and two students. The group has had 10 meetings this school year and has four more scheduled.

Additional Adoptions

Highline is also working on adoptions for Biology and Health, but these need to appear on the April showcase agendas.
