Easter Meditations: What God Sees

Nearly 4000 years ago, a desperate, forlorn young woman was seen out in the desert, expecting to die there. She felt alone, unloved, and hopeless when a voice spoke her name: “Hagar, where did you come from, and where will you go?” It was the Angel of the Lord! At that moment, she was given promises and comforted and was able to return home. “And she called the name of the Lord that spoke to her “Thou God seest me.” (Genesis 16:13)

Yes, there was one who saw her and spoke her name:
Our Living God! Because we have a LIVING GOD, we can call out to Him at any moment; He knows each of us by name, sees us, and hears us.

“What God Sees”

by Ruth Storkel

Recently I was traveling home on an airplane. I had the window seat, and it was a perfectly clear, sunny day. As I looked out the window, my thoughts were “high thoughts.” “Wow!” I contemplated. “This is what God sees ALL the time!” Beautiful valleys with patchwork fields of all shapes, sizes, and colors.

Huge, billowy white clouds with the sun shining brightly above them. Mountain ranges consisting of smaller hills and also loftier, brown, and rocky sculptured-looking peaks….Mt. Hood in Oregon, Mt. Adams in Washington, Mt. St. Helens, which still showed signs of its devastation from volcanic activity; Mt. Rainier, gloriously standing as the most majestic of them all!

“Wow!” I thought. “Imagine being God and constantly looking down on all your amazing creations from a high and lofty place like this!” I was “swept away” as I contemplated the wonder of it all!

But then another thought came: Although God sees it and created it all, His greatest concern is NOT the state of the mountains, rivers, valleys, etc.
What HIS eye IS on is the small, tiny people who live on this earth He created. What He IS looking on with such great interest is:

The mother at home scrubbing the kitchen floor.
That shy child boarding the school bus.
The truck driver driving down the long, lonely road.
The weary father coaching his son’s soccer team.
The grandmother on her knees, praying for her
grandchildren.
The sick person in the hospital.
That pastor praying over next Sunday’s sermon.
The widow who is home alone grieving.
The nurse working on the late-night shift.
The tired college student beginning an exam.

EACH ONE of these is important to HIM, and these are the things HIS EYES are intently watching over!

Every single person on this earth is important and significant to HIM…. more important than mountain ranges, rivers, oceans, and all other creations in the universe!

Do YOU know that the King of the Universe, the Magnificent Creator, the Savior of the World, has His eye on YOU at this very moment? He sees every little detail of your life—your joys, sorrows, worries, expectations, longings, pain—-everything about YOUR life!

While we often think of ourselves as puny and insignificant little beings, HE SAYS to us:

“Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap….and yet your Heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they”? (Matt. 5:26) “Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.” (Matt. 10:31)

“As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him; for He knows how we are formed; He remembers that we are dust.” (Psa. 103: 13-14)

“The eyes of the Lord are on those who fear Him; on those whose hope is in His unfailing love.” (Psa. 33:18)

“I have loved YOU with an everlasting love.” (Jer. 31:3)

“Cast all your cares on HIM, for He cares for you.”
I Peter 5:7
