Highline Pirates Improve to 5-3

by Martin Barrett

The Highline Pirates improved their record to 5-3 with a solid 14-0 shutout over the Foster Bulldogs Friday night at Mosier Field. As usual, Coach Jonny Locher has his boys running like a track team. The Pirates attempted to steal 17 bases during the game. Astoundingly, they were successful on 16 attempts! This “track-meet” kept the Bulldogs’ pitching off-balance, constantly facing batters with runners in scoring positions. This pressure was reflected in Foster pitchers issuing 15 walks.

This was the Pirates’ second shutout in a row. Solid pitching from starter Ronan Rasmussen, who faced 15 batters for 3.2 innings, was led by a trio, including Roman Easter and Emilio Flores-Delgado, to a robust 2-hit performance.

The Pirate offense caught their usual early momentum in the second inning with 5 runs using walks and singles. Highline put up 5 more runs in the fourth inning, capitalizing on Cameron Keller’s inside-the-park homerun, clearing the bases with a long ball.

Highline Pirates Varsity spread the runs among 4 players: Hawke Hansen, Easter, Gus Schafer and Keller. However, every Pirate with an at-bat collected a walk, demonstrating good patience.

The next game is Monday, April 3rd, at Sammamish High School. The first pitch will be at 4:30.
