Thinking of running for council in Burien?
If you are thinking about running for an elected office in Burien, make sure you check the legal requirements to see if you qualify to run. Most other cities have their own ordinances that their councils have approved and Burien used to have one also. However, about five years ago, Burien appears to have lost or misplaced the voting record of when the council first voted on its Eligibility to hold elective office ordinance of who could run for office in Burien, according to ex-city attorney, Lisa Marshall.
Based on the presumption that Burien had lost its council voting record data or the council failed to vote on what they had discussed related to eligibility to hold office, Burien now follows state law RCW 35A.12.030. Yes, we know that Burien is not a mayor council city but rather a council-manager city.-WA. State Law RCW Chapter 35A.13- see.council-manager plan of Government.
