Kennedy Catholic Season Highlights

12-game winning streak since opening loss to Eastside Catholic, who is playing Yelm for the 3A finals. Swept through conference play with convincing wins over all opponents. NPSL 4A Champions for 4th consecutive season. The offense has scored over 40 points in all but one winning game. The defense has held 10 of 13 opponents to less than 20 points. The playoff games have yielded a few more points against some very good teams.

Kennedy Catholic Offense Style

Air Raid spread attack averaging over 44 points per game with a mix of 30% run and 70% pass. Senior running back Xe’ree Alexander, an early Arizona State Sun Devil recruit, is the primary ball carrier, but you will see junior Zach Schell and sophomore Indy Jones get carries. Sophomore quarterback Devon Forehand has taken most of the snaps in the second half of the season, but the Lancers also use seniors Payton Faker and Mason Hayes in certain sets. Passes are split pretty evenly between receivers Hayes, senior Maclane Watkins, and juniors Mason Moriarity and Isaac Syph. The offensive line is anchored with senior Micah Banuelos, an early Southern California Trojan recruit.

Kennedy Catholic Defense Style

A versatile group, the defense has held opponents to an average of 14 points per game. Up front is rock solid, with Banuelos and fellow senior Ish Taliauli stopping the run and rushing the passer. Alexander and Hayes roam around behind the line with help from junior Thomas Bevilacqua and senior Shane McConville. The corners are covered by senior Nate Barnes and freshman Dante Saldino. They show tight pass coverage and have had timely interceptions.

Lake Stevens Season Highlights

There have been nine straight wins since the Sept 23 road game loss to 6A West Linn of Oregon. There are only four teams in their 4A conference, so scheduling non-conference games are crucial to playing solid competition. A tough non-conference schedule resulted in two early losses. Wesco 4A Champions for 9th consecutive season. The offense has scored over 40 points in all but one winning game. The defense has held 8 of 12 opponents to less than 21 points.  

Lake Stevens Offense Style

Base spread attack averaging over 40 points per game with a mix of 55% run and 45% pass. Senior running back Jayden Limar has rushed for over 1800 yards on 200 carries and has scored 35 rushing touchdowns. He is a four-star recruit headed to Notre Dame next year. Sophomore quarterback Kolton Matson has passed for over 1500 yards for 15 touchdowns and only seven interceptions. Key receivers are sophomore Cassidy Bolong-Banks, senior Isaac 

Redford, and junior tight end Cole Becker. Keep an eye on Bolong-Banks; he has scored on some toss sweep plays.   

Lake Stevens Defense Style

As a solid defensive group, they can lock the other team’s offense down. They have held opponents to an average of less than 20 points per game. They have intercepted 18 passes for the season and hold the opponents to less than 5 yards per rushing carry. Redford and Becker also lead the defense, along with junior linebacker Mason Turner and lineman Ashten Hendrickson.

3rd State Championship game in the past four seasons, 5th all-time. Lost to Graham-Kapowsin in the 2021 Championship game, beat them last week in 2022 semi-final game. Seeking first State Championship finals win.
