Tonight at Mt. Rainier High School from 6:30–7:30 pm. is the 5th and final “in-person” listening session with Superintendent Dr. Ivan Duran and Director Azeb Hagos, our newest Highline school board director. The District is updating its new Strategic Plan, and promoting the $518 Million Bond (Proposition 1) on the November 8th ballot, so your voice and questions are critical!

  1. Show up with your burning questions, thoughts, and comments about your school and student experiences. The past community meetings have been enlightening!  (1st Session and 3rd Session)
  1. A vital question to ask regarding the 2022 Bond: why was the proposed tax rate increased, even though they promised taxes would not go up? (And will new schools improve academic scores?)

Throughout September and October, they promoted a tax rate reduction to $3.86/$1000 assessed property value in ALL mailers, meetings, websites, etc. However, on October 6th, they silently reverted to the current rate of $4.40/$1000 assessed value. Check HERE to see how passing the bond will affect YOUR TAXES. (It only takes 30 seconds to check. Is it what you expected?)

Bring your questions. Be Heard, Highline Schools Community!

Including tonight’s event, the dates for the upcoming meetings are:

  • November 1st, 6:30–7:30 pm, Mount Rainier High School – District 5, Director Hagos
  • November 3rd, 6:00–7:00 pm, Virtual (all regions)
