Kennedy vs. Federal Way recap 10/01/22
The Kennedy Catholic Lancers traveled Friday evening to take on the Federal Way Eagles. This was one of the games circled on the Lancer’s schedule. Federal Way had a successful 2021 season, received some preseason hype, and is known to have a lot of talent on its team. This was the third conference game of the season for Kennedy Catholic, and a win would put the Lancers in an excellent spot to take control of the conference race.

Going into the game, neither team was favored; it was expected that this was a tossup and would be a tough contest; it turned out to be tough, though the 40-8 score in favor of Kennedy Catholic makes it look otherwise.

Kennedy Catholic had two touchdown passes from quarterback Devon Forehand in the first half, Xe’ree Alexander added two rushing touchdowns, and the Lancer defense provided a shutout effort until Federal Way scored with 8 seconds remaining in the game. The defense was also led by Alexander, who caused several turnovers, and Dante Saladino, who had two interceptions and knocked down a number of pass attempts. Federal Way had multiple drives inside the Lancer 5-yard line, but each time the defense held, and Federal Way came away with no points. Coach Sheldon Cross said, “Federal Way is one of the most talented teams in the state – our defense played great all night. We just kept stopping them and stopping them.” The defense has been dominating most of the season. After the week one loss to Eastside Catholic, the Lancer defense has allowed 6, 13, 0, and 8 points in the last four games.

Kennedy Catholic is back on top in the 4A NPSL conference and has its sights set on securing its fourth consecutive conference championship. The Lancers have found a formula for success with a solid defense that forces timely turnovers and allows minimal scoring by the other team. Then add in a big play offense that capitalizes on field position from turnovers and can stretch things and take a few chances knowing the defense has their back.

Next Saturday, October 8th, at 12 noon, Kennedy Catholic hosts the Kentridge Chargers at Highline Memorial Stadium. Kentridge is coming off a 39-6 nonconference win over Beamer last Thursday. Hard to predict how this game will go. Kentridge is 4-1 overall but had a 42-7 conference loss to Federal Way two weeks ago. They have some good wins, and now everyone is looking to upset Kennedy Catholic, so expect Kentridge to think they can be that team.

It is Homecoming week for the Lancers! All friends and Alumni of Kennedy Catholic are invited to come on out and see the football team in action. For more information on Homecoming events, contact Alumni Manager Megan Duffy or check out Kennedy’s website.
